Firefox Versus Internet Explorer

As of last month, over 54% of internet users use one of the many versions of Internet Explorer while roughly 38% of users use Firefox. Do these numbers indicate which browser is a better choice for you to use on a daily basis?
For the first time since the internet was created, Microsoft has competition when it comes to their browser and this competition will continue to grow as time progresses.
Firefox is praised for its download speed and a user interface that is far superior to that of IE. Its pop up blocker is also highly recommended as its fans say it’s the best out there. It offers tabbed browsing (which Microsoft soon added to their newest version of IE), which means that users can jump back and forth between different sites with only one window open and much more.
The biggestchallenge facing anyone who wants to build a case against IE is that most sites are built to be viewed on IE simply because most PC’s have it built in. That means some sites may look distorted or may not be accessible at all via a browser other than IE. Does this mean that Microsoft will forever be the monopolizer in the game of best browsers? Quite possibly but here are some compared stats on the two:
Pop-up blocker
IE: Yes
Firefox: YES
Able to selectively block pop-ups or view blocked pop-ups later
IE: Yes
Firefox: Yes
Built-in RSS reader
IE: No
Firefox: Yes
Third-party plug-ins
IE: Yes–many
Firefox: Yes–some
Uses ActiveX technology
IE: Yes
Firefox: No
User interface skins
IE: No
Firefox: Yes
OS required
IE: Windows XP SP2 and later only*
Firefox: All versions of Windows, Mac OS X, and several Linux distributions
When recommending which browser you want your business’ websites to be most compatible with, I would have to say IE as well although I personally enjoy Firefox. If you can find one that both browsers display the same, then that is your best bet. Who knows how long Firefox will trail behind with increasing numbers of IE crash complaints.
Time will only tell who will rule in browser kingdom!
