Writing articles to submit to various sites around the web is a great way to build links to a website and thus improve your search engine ranking. According to an article on SiteProNews:
Not only do you help build backlinks, but you contribute to your community, and make a name for yourself. Don’t write spammy articles, or try to advertise too hard. Make something useful that others will want as content on their own site.
If you are trying to build up a bit of recognition for your site, articles are a fantastic way to do it. In order to get those articles out and start boosting your search engine ranking, there are a few things that you need to do.
- Become a part of the community. The blog world is something of a community and while it is competitive, there still exists an atmosphere of camaraderie. Comment on other people’s blogs, link them to your own blog and send emails. Build your own social links and before too long you will be building those search engine ranking boosting web links that you crave so much.
- Start your own blog and publish regularly. How long does it take to write one or two short blog posts each day? If you get into the habit of it, you can pump them out in ten or fifteen minutes apiece. It helps you build a name and acts as a kind of portfolio for your work.
- Include interesting content. People will be more inclined to publish your work if your own site has interesting content. Building a name and a reputation will help you gain the recognition that you need to get those articles out there.
- Never oversell your product or service. Spammy articles are a real turn off to most people. It is not a good way to get your work published.
Building quality links will help you boost your search engine ranking, but you should be aware that it is a process that can take a great deal of time. You can get there eventually. With a lot of hard work and some careful strategizing, you can have a better search engine ranking.

For the first time since I can remember a month went by that Google didn’t gain search market share. In fact, Google slipped and it was quite a slip at that. Between November and December of 2007, Google lost 1.4% of its search traffic. While Google does control over half of search traffic, 1.4% is a significant loss. Many would assume that the points have gone to Yahoo but they haven’t. Microsoft has been the big winner with the latest figures. Considering how new they are to the search game, Microsoft’s gains are significant.
The following passage is from an article that recently featured in Web Pro News and is well worth checking out if you have the time:
In November 2007, Google held 57.7 percent of the search market, as they handled nearly 4.3 billion queries.
In December, Google’s nearly 4.1 billion queries occupied only 56.3 percent of search. Yahoo saw a smaller search drop, from 17.9 percent (1.3 billion queries) in November to 17.7 percent (1.27 billion queries).
Microsoft’s MSN and Live Search brought in 996 million queries in December, good enough for 13.8 percent in December. These represented a gain from 881 million November queries (12 percent.)
What does this all mean for website search engine marketing? Microsoft is a real contender. They are getting massive search traffic of late and for website search engine marketers that means ads on more sites. Microsoft offers great value for money and with the launch of their affiliate program, you can bet they will develop an army of loyal affiliate marketers in a very short amount of time. My prediction, if I might be so bold, is that by this time next year Google will drop a few more points to Microsoft who we might see slip into the number two spot. If Microsoft does not make number two by the end of the year, I will be surprised.

That Google dominates web searches is nothing new. They have been dominating web searches for a long time now. The question that is increasingly asked is, “If Google is the biggest, why don’t we just stick to Google for our website marketing campaign?” If we look at the following quote from Web Pro News, it is understandable why people are asking such questions.
Market share for Google search virtually reached 66 percent for the month of December 2007, while the next three major search sites gave back a little bit.
By the latest Hitwise numbers, once again, Google tops search market share in the United States. They picked up 65.98 percent, outdistancing the field.
Google is not only beating their competition, they are massacring it. Still, it is best not to forget that while the other three top search engines: Yahoo, MSN and Ask add up to most of the remaining percentage points, there are still good reasons for spreading your website search engine marketing budget around. Wherever you spend your money you are going to get an amount of hits that is equal to your budget. Whether your ad campaign is with Ask or Google, you will get what you pay for.
Competition keeps everyone honest. Ask yourself this question, “Are people that search through Ask less likely to buy my products than people that search through Google?” The answer is of course, “Absolutely not.” Don’t base your website search engine marketing campaign on the site that has the biggest chunk of the market, base it on the provider that gives you the best prices. If that is Google, go with Google, but you are likely to find that the others provide some pretty stiff competition.

In an article on Marketing Pilgrim today, Roderick Ioerger discusses a patent that was registered by Google approximately six months ago. The patent involves technology that will allow Google to search for text in images. This has excellent potential for website search engine marketing applications.
Information Week has reported that in June of 07 Google filed a patent application, which has just become available, outlining a “method of optical character recognition in digital images.” The application seems to cover both static images as well as video. The ability to do this could radically change a number of existing Google services as well as again change the way the Internet marketing world interacts with images and video.
How can this technology be applied to website search engine marketing? The answer has more to do with site optimization than search engine optimization. Less actual text will be required for websites. People will be able to build websites that make use of text in images without worrying about the traffic that they may or may not be sacrificing by doing so. People will still need to tag their images for screen readers and for images that do not contain text, but images that do contain enough text may be able to stand alone.

In a recent survey, 58% of 2800 Americans stated that the Internet was the place they turned for information regarding various matters. 30% chose to visit libraries with others stating that they would contact government agencies directly. The ten issues that were surveyed are as follow:
1. dealing with a serious illness or health concern
2. making a decision about school enrollment, financing school, or upgrading work skills
3. dealing with a tax matter
4. changing a job or starting a business
5. getting information about Medicare, Medicaid, or food stamps
6. getting information about Social Security or military benefits
7. getting information about voter registration or a government policy
8. seeking helping on a local government matter such as a traffic problem or schools
9. becoming involved in a legal matter
10. becoming a citizen or helping another person with an immigration matter.
What does this mean for website search engine marketing? The answer is simple, more people than ever before are turning to the Internet as their primary source of information. One could argue that an advertisement with a search engine, or some well placed SEO content can have more impact and drive a lot more business than a Yellow Pages ad.
Website Search Engine Marketing makes sense, it gives you a global audience on top of a local audience. While some might argue that it cuts out people without the means for Internet access. The fact is, if they don’t have Internet access, they might not have the means to afford your product or service anyway. Website search engine marketing caters to a segment of the population that has disposable income. I would be interested to see a few shopping related questions in the above survey.

Web design projects can create time management issues. It takes a great deal of time to code a site if you are not doing it all the time. There once was a time that I would do all of my site designing myself in a bid to save a few extra bucks. It usually worked out well for me, but spending hundreds of hours in front of the computer screen designing websites is not my idea of fun. I prefer to be in the trenches making sales, promoting, producing content and that sort of thing. Time is money after all, and why not spend your time doing the things that you do best? Outsourcing website design can be a massive time saver and is not all that expensive with GetAFreelancer.com and Quote Catcher.
I use Quote Catcher for times that I want a site designed from the ground up. Quote Catcher will allow different designers to bid for your site. You will get up to five quotes, you choose the one that is the best offer from your point of view. The best offer does not have to be the cheapest one. It depends on your needs, if you want a slick looking website, then it is probably wise to go with whichever site designer has the most impressive portfolio. If it does not really matter, go with the cheapest.
When I have smaller or more technical jobs, I use GetAFreelancer.com. With GetAFreelancer.com you give a specific outline of the job that you require and freelance programmers will offer you bids. It is important to distinguish GetAFreelancer from Quote Catcher. The freelancers on GetAFreelancer.com are programmers, you use them for programming related jobs. If you need a shopping cart system, or would like to make some sort of site related improvement, this is the place to go.

Blogs are highly underutilized website marketing tools. Blog marketing is becoming very big business, because they provide such an easy way to drive traffic to a website. They are also a great way to improve your website search engine optimization and a means to build up regular traffic as opposed to people that just pass through.
Blogs one of the easiest website marketing tools to get up and running. You will need to ensure that it is easy to navigate from your site to your blog and from your blog to your site, that requires a lot of interlinking, which can be time consuming. You will want a well designed template and you will want to ensure that people can easily find the RSS feeds on your page, that will ensure that you get more regular readers. From then, you can work on producing the content. An article a day Monday to Saturday is a good way to start. Sundays are optional, many blogs do not update on Sunday, so if you cover it then there is a good chance that you will draw some links to your site.
Blogs are fantastic website marketing tools and a great outlet for your website marketing content, but you do need to be a little careful about how you use them. You will want a well designed template that matches the look of your site. You should try to avoid the hard sell in blogs as it will turn people off. They will think that you are only promoting your products. The blogosphere is extremely fickle, it is best to be moderate. Interlink as much as possible and don’t be afraid to quote other people or link to their sites. If you quote someone or source some information from someone, always include their URL; do it enough times and you will get a link exchange. Other blogs can help to market your own. Use website search engine optimization principals, but do not overdo the keywords. If it looks obvious, people will look elsewhere.
If you are hosting with Go Daddy, then incorporating a blog is a very simple process. Go Daddy set everything up for you, so all that you have to do is to click a link. You decide where on your site you want to have your blog and within a short period of time, it is set up. Come to Brick Marketing if you are interested in website marketing tools.
