When planning your local online marketing campaign its important to include the search engines and also their local search; but don’t stop there. There is another key player out there.
Anyone that has a website has heard of directories, dmoz is a word that almost every website owner knows. Most even dream of being listed in it. Almost the same number of people know how frustrating the wait can be. But dmoz is not the only directory or even only type of directory you should pursue. Almost all of the search engines have a local directory that is separate from their local search. In addition to the search engines there are fast approaching a multitude of local business directories.
These directories are a kind of cross between the printed yellow pages and a search engine. They are designed to be search able by humans as well as search engines. Some will only allow the standard yellow pages information and others will allow you to build a mini site within their directory but all provide a valuable service to your site.
When the searcher goes to their search engine of choice these directories are another avenue to capture that person and bring them to your business whether online or offline. Unfortunately they are all a manual submission and can take time but most allow you a free ad even if its the minimal information, so definitely worth the time it takes to submit your site.

Website local advertising is going to take a bigger slice of the local advertising pie, but it is unlikely to take the place of traditional forms in the foreseeable future. That is the gist of some new research offered by Jupiter Research and reported in Marketing Pilgrim:
Online advertising will continue to grow for years to come, especially local business advertising. JupiterResearch. According to the US Online Local Advertising Forecast, by JupiterResearch local advertising will grow 13% in 2007 to 2012. Online advertising generally is expected to grow 12 percent during that time. Advertisers will focus on local display and search advertising the most.
Compound annual growth rates (CAGRs) are expected to be 18 percent and 16 percent, respectively, during the next five years.
Online advertising is taking a larger proportion of budgets than in past years, but won’t replace traditional advertising.
As the small business sector is infused with fresh talent, you can expect to see a lot more Internet savvy business owners than there have been in the past. More people will realize the benefits that website local advertising has to offer. It was not that long ago that most people found a business through the Yellow Pages or local newspapers. This is less often the case now as many people turn online to find a product or service. Website local advertising is a great way for business owners to make sure that they pick up valuable local customers.

Website local advertising is a great way to improve your local traffic. While there are some businesses that are truly without borders, some people do choose to shop locally. There are a lot of advantages to local sales:
Lower shipping prices that can be enjoyed.
If you have a bricks and mortar business in addition to a website it can bring in foot traffic.
For a large number of people, the Internet is the only place to search for businesses.
For a service based industry, it is a great way to decide where you take jobs.
If website local advertising is not part of your advertising budget, there is no reason not to start. Unless your target audience is purely international, the advantages of website local advertising make it well worth the expense.

Web design projects can create time management issues. It takes a great deal of time to code a site if you are not doing it all the time. There once was a time that I would do all of my site designing myself in a bid to save a few extra bucks. It usually worked out well for me, but spending hundreds of hours in front of the computer screen designing websites is not my idea of fun. I prefer to be in the trenches making sales, promoting, producing content and that sort of thing. Time is money after all, and why not spend your time doing the things that you do best? Outsourcing website design can be a massive time saver and is not all that expensive with GetAFreelancer.com and Quote Catcher.
I use Quote Catcher for times that I want a site designed from the ground up. Quote Catcher will allow different designers to bid for your site. You will get up to five quotes, you choose the one that is the best offer from your point of view. The best offer does not have to be the cheapest one. It depends on your needs, if you want a slick looking website, then it is probably wise to go with whichever site designer has the most impressive portfolio. If it does not really matter, go with the cheapest.
When I have smaller or more technical jobs, I use GetAFreelancer.com. With GetAFreelancer.com you give a specific outline of the job that you require and freelance programmers will offer you bids. It is important to distinguish GetAFreelancer from Quote Catcher. The freelancers on GetAFreelancer.com are programmers, you use them for programming related jobs. If you need a shopping cart system, or would like to make some sort of site related improvement, this is the place to go.

While the Christmas lead up is traditionally a great time of year for retailers, service based industries are quite often left high and dry as people spend up big on presents and neglect their usual purchases. It can be a quiet time of year for service providers, but Website local advertising can be a great way to get the ball rolling again for the time that the January pay checks roll in.
If you are in a service based industry then you may already be aware of the benefits of website local advertising. It is a great way to bring in customers that live in your area. The technology has been around for some time, but it has really come into its own with the advent of mapping systems that are run by Yahoo! and Google. Google has taken it a step further recently by allowing mapping technology on cell phones whether or not they are equipped with GPS chips. When people look at their maps, they also see local advertising; excellent for drawing foot traffic.
Yahoo! and Google both offer excellent website local advertising opportunities. If you are looking to start a website local advertising campaign we thoroughly recommend either advertiser. If you do have any questions with regard to your website local advertising campaign, please feel free to contact us at Brick Marketing.

Yahoo! Search Marketing is getting quite a name in the website local advertising sector. They are up against a well established, powerful opponent in Google, but they are a very big company in their own right and certainly know what they are doing. In competing with the biggest force in online advertising, they have to work very hard to maintain a competitive edge. As an advertising customer that can work in your favor.
Website local advertising is a rapidly growing sector of online advertising. There is little wonder why, technologies now exist that allow for very precise targeted advertising. Yahoo! Search Marketing entry into online advertising has certainly made things interesting. They are bringing a fresh approach to a relatively new business. It remains to be seen how much of Google’s market share they will be able to lever away.

Here is a story that has been causing a bit of a buzz in cyberspace lately. It has received coverage in all of the major news networks. Google has developed an algorithm that will allow the triangulation based on proximity to different cell phone towers. While triangulation is nothing new, the way it is being applied in this case is groundbreaking. You better believe that there are enormous advertising applications to this technology. The potential is huge, especially for Website Local Advertising.
This was in a recent article on Marketing Pilgrim:
Google Maps has long played nicely with GPS phones, using the built-in locator to center the map. Now even nonGPS phones can use this feature. Search Engine Land reports that the feature will use cell phone tower triangulation to automatically locate the user on maps.
Google’s new technology is big enough news on its own, but what it could mean for website local advertising is quite difficult to estimate. This could allow website local advertising linked to very precise location parameters to be placed on the maps that people view. If the use of the system takes off, and there is every reason to believe that it will considering how successful Google’s map technology has been on cell phones to date, then it brings a previously untapped mobile market into contact with website local advertising.

Why would you want to push local sales over long-distance sales? There are plenty of reasons why Website Local Advertising is a good idea.
Many people prefer a business that they can see. Even if you are selling a product from home, the proximity acts offers your customers reassurance that they are actually buying a real product from a real business.
Selling locally can allow you to avoid high shipping charges. It might even be feasible to deliver products yourself, depending on how busy you are. At any rate, it is always going to be cheaper to ship locally.
Many people include a localized keyword in their search terms.
If your customers need to contact you by telephone or vice versa, it is a lot cheaper.
If you are not advertising locally, maybe its time to start. Microsoft, Yahoo and Google all offer local advertising options. It is a great way to build a customer base that is closer to home. Here at Brick Marketing we thoroughly recommend devoting part of your budget at least to website local advertising. If you have any questions or need help in producing a local advertising campaign, do not hesitate to contact us.

Website Local Advertising is a great idea and it doesn’t matter what type of business you are in. Logic has it that businesses that do not have a range on their services, do not need local advertising, right? Wrong, a lot of people add a regional keyword regardless of the product or service that they are looking for. There are some sectors that can benefit more from local advertising, but it never hurts to keep the local bases covered, regardless of the business that you are in. Of course, if you are offering a service that truly has no range, you also want to advertise globally, but make sure that your advertising budget includes some room for a local campaign.
There are some businesses that would do best to only advertise locally. Generally, the bigger and more importantly, heavier your product is, the more sense it makes. There are some exceptions to this rule, but very few. If you sell automobiles, most people are going to want to look at them first, furthermore, they are not going to want to pay for shipping when they can get the same product closer to home and avoid the cost. If you sell rare and valuable automobiles, then you might want to consider broadening the spectrum.
If you sell a service that requires your physical presence then you want to keep the focus narrowed to the distance that you are prepared to drive. I know of one steam cleaning company that adopted a clever approach. The owner was building his business at the time and was prepared to take work wherever he could get it, but at the same time he wanted to build up the bulk of his work closer to home. The amount that he received per job was quite high, but logically, he could make more money if he was able to perform two or even three jobs in a single day. That would not be possible if he was spending significant amounts of time driving. What he did was he planned his local advertising carefully. Spending a large part of his budget on affluent areas closer to home. Website local advertising helped him build up customers in areas that he preferred to work in. His great interpersonal skills helped to secure repeat business and the end result is that he now has a good number of repeat customers closer to home. If you are selling a product or service, think carefully about how wide people are going to search.
Website local advertising is a great way to increase your marketing presence closer to home. Whatever business you are in this makes sense. There are people that simply prefer working with a local business. A local business owner can be approached. You can sit down and discuss things with them face to face and some people like that. You can always bolster your website local advertising with some great search engine optimized content. Keep those geographic keywords in your content as well. If you have any questions about how to kick start your local advertising campaign, please do not hesitate to contact Brick Marketing.

Advertising campaigns are great, but only if you are able to target the right audience. If your website is selling a product or service that has a limited range, then you might do better to opt for some local advertising. If you are unaware of what local advertising is, it is advertising that is geared to a specific local area. People are getting better at searching for the goods and services that they want, invariably they enter a location into the search box to accompany their keywords.
The major website advertising companies, Google, Yahoo and Microsoft, all have local advertising options. Rather than make an advertisement that the entire web can see, you can target it at people within your region. If you own a carpet cleaning business in Orange County, you might choose to target areas in and around Orange County. You can make the locations extremely specific. Once you have purchased advertising, you would do well to ensure that you have an adequate amount of local search engine optimized content as well.
Targeting local leads is one of the smartest moves that you can make. If you want to learn more about website local advertising, come and visit us at Brick Marketing.
